The phrase “being mindful” has been used to define a psychological state in which you focus on the present moment and don’t dwell on the past or worry about the future.

It is a practice that promotes awareness of the present moment.

In order to be consistent with most of the research, mindfulness is recognized as a moment-to-moment awareness of your experiences without placing judgment.

It is a state of being and not a character trait. And, while it may involve things like meditation, it is much more than that.

Several practices and disciplines can promote mindfulness, such as qi gong, tai chi, and yoga; however, most of the research has been focused on mindfulness that is developed through meditation, a practice involving self-regulation control. Continue reading

Goal setting is an important task if you want to create the future that you want. Mindfulness is important to your future even while you’re focusing on the present. Mindfulness in the present is what can steer you toward the future that’s meant for you to have.

When you practice mindfulness, what it can do is guide your future by steering your thoughts and emotions toward a course of events that lead you. Through mindfulness, your goals will be where you want to go but will be set in reality and not based on perception.

Mindfulness fights back about perception and this is important because our perceptions don’t tell the truth. You might perceive that you’re a failure based on having made mistakes, but that perception is not reality. Continue reading
