When you have an insurmountable amount of pressure in your life, it can feel as if you are carrying a large burden on your back that can really slow you down when it comes to achieving your goals.
Fortunately however, like most of the problems in life that we will come across, pressure is all in our minds.
As such, there are some things you can do to change your perception of the situation which will result in the release of pressure from your life.
1 – Don’t Strive to Be a Perfectionist
Many people agree that the whole concept of attempting to be a perfectionist is pretty pointless.
By striving to ensure that everything goes exactly the way you want it do, ultimately you will be setting yourself up for future failure as well as to put unnecessarily pressure on yourself as well. This has a counterproductive effect which will essentially reduce your ability to do an excellent job.
That isn’t to say that you shouldn’t strive to complete the job in a time efficient manner, however, you should be aware of the fact that obstacles or shortcomings may manifest themselves. As such, as opposed to striving to be a perfectionist, understand that you may experience a few shortcomings here and there.
The most important thing to remember is that you shouldn’t let them affect your performance.
2 – Forget About What Others Think
Most of the pressure that you’re experiencing may be due to the fact that you’re overly concerned about the opinions of others. But as a wise man once said, the trick isn’t to avoid hurting, the trick is to not mind that that it hurts.
The same thing can be said about the opinions or validation of others: the trick isn’t to change the way they think or to gain their validation, the trick is to not care about what they think. As far as pressure goes, the trick isn’t to see how you can prevent yourself from experience pressure, because you will, the trick is to not mind that you’re experiencing pressure and as such, you will release it.
3 – Just Do It
One of the interesting things about pressure is that it has a way of trapping us in a state of procrastination. We may experience so much pressure, that we simply do not know where to begin. As such, we strive to focus on other things or in essence, procrastinate as opposed to focusing on the task at hand. However, by “just doing it”, it can help to stop overthinking as well as to get you out of a state of procrastination.
