Many might say there is no success without risk being involved. When you break or push the boundaries of society’s rules, success can be yours – just as if you were in the Olympics and pushed your body and mind to reach the finish line before anyone else.
Playing it safe is the “playground of mediocrity” and if you pursue dreams and goals outside the norm – may keep you from achieving success. Your life may be ruled by routines that you create for yourself because you’re afraid from venturing out, speaking your mind and trying new things.
Risk-takers are adventurers and dreamers. They push the boundaries of rules to achieve and that’s exactly what they do. They also tend to have much more self-esteem than those who take the path that many have traveled.
You don’t have to be a sky-diver or astronaut, but you do need to allow yourself to enjoy a different perspective on things you want to do or experience. Those who don’t take risks at all risk boring and non-eventful lives.
Mark Frost, a novelist and film director, stated “Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well-preserved body. But rather, to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming…Wow! What a ride!”
Pushing the boundaries of the rules of society can give you that type of life. But, you also have to use caution when breaking rules. If breaking a rule would hurt someone you love or set you back in life, think long and hard before breaking it.
Can you have success without risk taking and rule-breaking? To answer this question, think about any important and successful figure in history who has achieved great success without taking risks? Probably not.
You may not care about having your picture and achievements in a history book, but you can achieve success in your own realm by pushing boundaries and breaking rules to get what you want.
Only you can assess how you want to live your life. Do you want to play it safe and live your life making as few waves as possible? Then, keep following society’s rules and you’ll be a success in your own eyes.
Take a risk once in a while and see how it turns out. It could be as simple as taking a different route to work. Maybe a new shop has opened along the way that you’ll enjoy. Your mind will thank you for it.
