Fruits of the Spirit
So often we use the word “good” in our everyday conversations – in our greetings, in our compliments, in our commendations.
Goodness is one of the nine fruits of the Holy Spirit listed in Galatians 5:22-23. It’s a character trait that we strive to develop in our lives as Christians. But what does goodness mean? And how can we cultivate it in our lives?
God wants His children to reflect His morally upright, righteous, and virtuous character. As the ultimate source of goodness, God can replicate His character of goodness in our lives as we strive to bear good fruit. His word says in Psalms 23:6 that “Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.” God extends His goodness to us, and our role is to reflect the character of God. One of the most outstanding qualities of God is that He is faithful. God is loyal, reliable, and dependable and we can always trust His promises. “Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” –Lamentations 3:22-23. It’s this admirable character trait that the Lord wants to produce in each of His children when we choose to yield ourselves to the working of the Holy Spirit. It is important to bear this noble character and with God’s help, He can produce it in our lives.
For the Lord is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations. -Psalms 100:5. When we demonstrate faithfulness, we reflect God’s character. God is always faithful to His promises, and we can trust that He will always be present in our lives to lead and guide us. Continue reading
